HURIWA Condemns “State Sponsored” Fuel Scarcity: *Chides NLC/TUC for Compromise:

A pro-democracy and non-governmental organization – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has accused the Presidency of deliberately sabotaging the petrol supply chains in a bid to blackmail Nigerians to accept pump price hike.
Also, the Rights group has condemned the clear case of being 'bought over' by federal government of the two hitherto most critical civil society stakeholders – the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) which has compelled the compromised hierarchies to remain silent in the face of massively phenomenal suffering; agonies and pains by the masses in the face of artificially induced and State sponsored scarcity of petroleum products all across Nigeria.
In a media statement by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA has therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Dr. Ibe Kachikwu to step down immediately as senior and junior ministers of petroleum for consistently failing to bring the deliberate sabotage of petrol supply chains in the last two months to an effective halt.
Besides, HURIWA said empirical evidences are unambiguous even to the undiscerning citizens that the duo of President Buhari and Kachikwu are grossly incompetent and lack the capacity to ensure the smooth distribution of petroleum products all across the country even as the policing institution is so heavily compromised, grossly indisciplined, and rudderless to effectively check the persistent criminal hoarding in a very systematic way of the petroleum products by centripetal and centrifugal forces in the petroleum subsector of the economy.
HURIWA further blamed the security forces such as the Nigerian customs services and immigration for dereliction of duty which has allowed all shades of criminal gangs to embark and engage in the bonanza and evil enterprise of smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring nations whereby these merchants of death make unjustifiable profits.
“President Buhari who is the self-imposed senior petroleum minister and his subordinate Dr. Kachikwu have collectively demonstrated an intolerable level of incompetence and non-challance which have allowed criminal forces to dictate the phase of fuel supply networks.
HURIWA condemned the inability of the current administration to fix the four refineries so as to increase and improve their refining capacities to be able to meet with the increasing local demands even as the Rights group blamed selfish commercial benefits for the deliberate refusal of government to introduce transparency and accountability in the petroleum industry but has allowed organized criminal gangs to continue to ride roughshod on the legitimate demands of Nigerians for affordable premium motor spirit.
“The masses must take their destiny in their hands and mobilize themselves in smaller numbers to shout to High Heavens and demand immediate change of the hardship being inflicted on all of us by officials of government and merchants of petrol who are only out to enrich their pockets. The Labour Unions have been settled. Most of us in the civil society community have being bribed to keep quiet even as others have been driven underground due to economic depression and the insecurity that have become the order of the day. Nigerians must fight their own battle now”.

Herdsmen’s Menace and a rare Panacea By Emmanuel Onwubiko

John Keane is a professor of politics at the University of Westminster and the WZB (Berlin).
The aforementioned scholar, who is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, is the author of a best seller politics book called “The life and Death of Democracy”.
As a student of political philosophy, Professor Keane has won my undying admiration for writing frankly on and about the vicissitudes and concupisciences of politics as the world knows the trade now.
Since buying this beautiful piece of intellectual work during my previous visit to London a couple of years ago, I have come to the inevitable conclusion that the mountains of self-inflicted afflictions in the Nigerian polity can be ameliorated if only the framers of political policies can pick up a copy and digest through the philosophically deep contents.
In the wise words of T.S. Eliot “what we call the beginning is often the end and to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from”.
Yours faithfully was therefore attracted to begin this reflection on the fundamental conundrum that the erudite Professor Keane posed in the book which seeks to unravel the 'whyness' of democracy.
He said that democracy as we know it ruined in fits and starts by contempt for parties, politicians and parliaments, anti-American sentiments, nationalism, fake democrats, perhaps also by fear and violence, unimpeachable cross-border institutions, market failures deepening social inequality, fatalism and disgust for the hypocrisy of whatever remained of democratic ideals and institutions".
He then posed additional sub-questions as follows: “If our muse was right to foresee in these trends the sabotage of monitory democracy, what, if anything would be lost? Who would care? Why should anybody care? In plain words: would it really matter if democracy died a fitful death?
These syllogistic arguments can be referred to whilst extrapolating on our existential man-made problems that politicians have imposed on the larger society by their crass incompetence and deliberate unwillingness to play the game of politics by the rules.
Of all the monumental crises of political underdevelopment, the one that now poses grave threat to our continuous existence as a nation are the deliberately unabated bouts of violent attacks of farming communities by armed Fulani herdsmen. Cacophony discordant tunes have emanated from different layers of the political class on why these attacks have perjured. The tolls in human costs are rising by the day and millions of Nigerians are questioning the essence of the democracy that is orchestrated not to be able to provide the primary purpose of constitutional government which is the protection of lives and property of Nigerians effectively.
In the last three years especially, Nigeria has witnessed an unfortunate proliferation of blood cuddling violence unleashed by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen who from available body of empirical date, may have the active support of some politically connected persons in the current federal government.
Take for instance the statement by the Defence Minister Major General (retired) Mansur Dan-Ali who blamed Benue and Taraba states for passing the anti-open grazing laws as the immediate cause of the killings of farmers masterminded by armed Fulani herdsmen.
Take also the irresponsible statement credited to the inspector General of Police supporting the insensitive position of the Defence Minister in blaming the victims of the attacks for the bloody violence unleashed on them.
Again, take a look at the careless statement that emanated from both the Defence headquarters and the Department of state services on this same vexed matter of well-coordinated violence and pogroms by armed Fulani herdsmen targeting innocent farmers.
These cocktails of irrational sentiments expressed by the occupants of otherwise very strategic national Defence agencies depicts an administration that lacks the political will to tackle the menace the mass killers who are suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen have become.
These matters are danger signals that are capable of killing Nigeria’s democracy.
A pro-democracy group that i head, Human Right Writers Association of Nigeria had blamed the imbalance in the composition of the National Defence Council for the pro-killer herdsmen comments made by the Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Munir Dan-Ali (rtd.).
HURIWA was reacting to Dan-Ali’s comments about the immediate and remote causes of attacks on farming communities by suspected armed herdsmen.
Dan-Ali was quoted as saying “You see, whenever a crisis happens at any time, there are remote and immediate causes. Since the nation’s independence, we know there used to be routes whereby the cattle rearers took because they are all over the nation.
“You go to Bayelsa, Ogun, you will see them. If those routes are blocked, what do you expect will happen?
“These people are Nigerians. It is just like going to block the shoreline; does that make sense to you? These are the remote causes of the crisis. But the immediate cause is the grazing law.”
HURIWA’s disappointment with the minister’s position which he said was akin to providing subtle justification for the criminal attacks by suspected armed herdsmen on farming communities still rankles the consciences of good spirited Nigerians.
The association noted that Dan-Ali’s simplistic assessment which reduced the problem to the proliferation of anti-open grazing laws in different states of the federation and blockade of grazing routes were responsible for the killings by herdsmen  was to say the least “unpatriotic and unbecoming of a statesman.”
HURIWA equally noted that it appeared that those at the helm of affairs were pampering the suspected armed herdsmen because of some ethno-religious affiliations with heads of internal security agencies under President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group urged President Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, respect the provisions of the Nigerian constitution with regards to the federal character principle by immediately reconstituting the national security team to reflect Nigeria’s diversity.
Specifically, the group quoted Section 42 (1) (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to buttress its point.
“HURIWA insists that the lopsided domination of the security forces by Hausa/Fulani ethnicity is a grave breach of the extant provision as cited above even as the selective appointments of persons from one section of Nigeria amounted to discrimination which is absolutely illegal and unconstitutional.
“Nigerians expect the holder of the high office of Defence minister to be patriotic enough to denounce blood-cuddling terror attacks orchestrated  by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen, but what has come out from the meeting of President Buhari’s security council as relayed by the Defence minister shows that the current administration has no intention to arrest, prosecute and where possible punish the perpetrators of the killings in Benue, Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa and Enugu states.”
The group urged the President Buhari-led administration to rise up to its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of ethno-religious bias or political affiliation.
But the Bishop of Sokoto puts it much more succinctly when he simply described politics in Nigeria as a criminalized enterprise.
Bishop Kukah said this at the launch of a book titled “The Shadow List’’ written by Dr. Todd Moss and organized by the African Centre for Media and Information Literacy in Abuja.
“I have said it severally; let Nigerians keep saying they want a God-fearing leader. Nigeria does not need a God-fearing leader, because God-fearing has become an excuse to appeal to Nigerians and win elections.
He hit the nail on the head thus: “Governance in Nigeria is a criminalized enterprise and a criminalized state cannot progress; so we must come to terms as to why it is that this country is in such low portion."
“Fixing this country requires much more than that; national cohesion, holding our country together is the most fundamental project if we are to fix this nation".
However, the pertinent question to ask so as to save Nigeria’s democracy from imminent death is why the President has failed to exercise his constitutional powers to save Nigerians from the barrage of violent attacks by armed Fulani Herdsmen.
Dr. Tunji Abayomi wrote a seminal book in which he reeled out the constitutional powers of the President even as he ironically titled his book as “constitutional powers and duties of the President”.
“The President shall be the Head of State, the Chief Executive of the Federation and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces of the Federation”. Section 130(2) is copied verbatim from the First Presidential Constitution Decree of 1979”.
He wrote further: “Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution Decree invests in the President, the executive powers of the Federation, but does not define what the President is. What the section defines is what the President can do. He shall execute and maintain the Constitution and laws. But Section 130 of the Constitution Decree defines what it means to be President. He is the Chief; that is, one who is principal leader, and the eminent power of paramount important in the entire nation."
"The President is also Executive; that is, he possesses the authority to carry the affairs of the state into effect by securing due observance to the laws as enacted by the legislature and interpreted by the courts".
So why has the President failed to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians effectively? This reminds me of a story which started with a poser thus: Ever wondered the possibility of someone being inside the ocean and yet soap enters your eyes frustratingly?
That seems to be the situation that Nigeria has found herself with the ever widening threats of violence by armed Fulani herdsmen all across diverse farming communities in Nigeria over the last couple of years. But there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel with the rare solution proffered by Governor of Kano State which i believe is a masterstroke.
Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje reportedly called on all Fulani’s herdsmen resident in other parts of the country, especially Benue and Taraba states, to relocate to Kano state since the state has vast grazing land to accommodate them and their cattle.
Ganduje, who stated this while inspecting the vaccination of over one million cattle and other small animals’ free-of-charge at Kadawa artificial insemination centre in Garum Malam Local Government Area of the state, as part of activities to mark the 2017/2018 livestock vaccination programme, condemned the recent killings emanating from clashes between farmers and herdsmen describing it as unacceptable.
Speaking further during the occasion tagged “Towards Conservation of Livestock Resource and Animal Protein for Citizens of Kano,” Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the exercise was made to keep the animals healthy and improve the economy of the state.
According to him, the over one million cattle and small animals vaccinated for free will be free of animal diseases, adding that his administration is committed to the welfare and economic wellbeing of the Fulani herdsmen.
He further stated that as part of the government’s commitment to encourage herdsmen in the state, Kano state government has continued to provide facilities that will contain the herdsmen and their cattle so as to prevent them from travelling to other states in search of grazing lands.
Ganduje also stated that Fulani herdsmen of Kano origin do not move out of Kano to other states, “because we have enough grazing land, ranches and traditional stock route. So, they don’t have any reason to move out of the state. We take care of them and we accord them the respect and dignity they deserve.”
According to him, “I am inviting herdsmen from all parts of Nigeria to relocate to Kano because we have enough facilities to accommodate them. We have grazing lands in Rogo, Gaya, Kura, Tudun Wada, Ungogo and other reserved places where facilities are in place to accommodate the herdsmen and their cattle.”
The Governor also revealed that already, his administration is in collaboration with the Federal Government and foreign agencies to convert the Falgore Game Reserve into a modern grazing land.
According to him, “Falgore Game Reserve can take care of millions of herdsmen and their cattle in Nigeria. The place has been designed to contain schools, human and animal clinics, markets, recreational centres and other social amenities that can give the herdsmen enough comfort to take care of their animals and do their business without hindrance.
“These killings must stop. We cannot afford to continue to witness these senseless killings in the name of Fulani herdsmen and farmers clash over lack of grazing land while we have a place like the Falgore Game Reserve underutilized.”
He further stated that, “there is no longer fear of cattle rustling in Kano. Cattle rustling are now history because we fought the menace headlong. In Falgore right now, we have enough security there. Those rustlers have relocated elsewhere, while some of them who repented from their evil ways were given amnesty and rehabilitated.”
Ganduje also said that his administration has embarked on the registration of herdsmen and the numbers of their cattle to enable government take care of them through free vaccination and other incentives that will add value to their business.
“A Cattle Intervention centre has been established to address the challenges associated with rumination of herdsmen within Kano. Just recently, we sponsored the training of over 61Fulani who were sent to Turkey to learn artificial insemination.
“They are back to Kano and I must tell you that they are doing well in various places to have been assigned to do their job,” he stated.
Rather than stoking embers of inter-Ethnic recriminations and mutual suspicions by the shadow chasing by minister of agriculture in planning to set up what he calls cattle colonies, the Ganduje's Panacea is a masterstroke that should be adopted. Let the Federal government support Kano State in this heroic effort to stop the mass killings attributed to armed Fulani herdsmen.

Herdsmen’s Killings: Osinbanjo’s Committee a ruse: HURIWA *Resolves to drag Yemi Osinbanjo, Buhari to ICC

A leading Non-governmental organization and a pro-constitutional group – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has lambasted the Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s – led committee on the herdsmen killings for recommending dialogue with Miyetti Allah cattle owners association.
Calling it a treasonable felony to dialogue with alleged sponsors of the mass killings perpetrated by armed Fulani herdsmen, the Rights group said what a sane administration in a properly administered constitutional democracy ought to do is to enforce the relevant laws by arresting, prosecuting and legally sanctioning the leadership of Miyetti Allah cattle owners’ association who were clearly seen addressing media conferences and threatening fire and brimstone just few days before each of the deadly attacks targeting farming communities which escalated in the last 3 years.
The Rights group has therefore asked its legal team to file additional material evidences to the international criminal court in The Hague Netherlands to reinforce an earlier petition it sent to the same global crime’s court on the incessant Fulani herdsmen's terrorism all over Nigeria with the renewed mandate to list Professor Osinbanjo and his committee dialoguing with Miyetti Allah as defendants.
In a media statement, HURIWA through the duo of the National coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, carpeted the presidency for persistently deploying armed security forces only after innocent Nigerians are massacred by armed Fulani marauders.
HURIWA criticized the Directorate of public Relations at the Nigerian Defence Headquarters for insisting that it wouldn't deploy soldiers to protect farmers coming under attacks from armed Fulani herdsmen but only to hurriedly dispatch military troop soon after the dastardly criminal act of mob killing of 7 suspected Hausa/Fulani travellers by some unruly mob in Gboko Benue State as if the military of Nigeria has become the official Hausa/Fulani police under President Muhammadu Buhari.
HURIWA warned the Buhari's administration to stop stoking the fire of mutual suspicions through the administration's preferences for nepotism in appointments of strategic security chiefs and favoritism in the selective deployment of armed soldiers only to chase after cattle rustlers and to protect Hausa/Fulani herdsmen from possible reprisals after every violent attacks of farming communities by armed Fulani herdsmen.
"May we remind President Muhammadu Buhari of the time tested facts that the ongoing executive lawlessness which has made most other communities outside of Hausa/Fulani to live in fear will precipitate a long drawn out civil unrests in the nearest future unless the government addressed the lopsided appointments of defence chiefs which favours Hausa/Fulani and balance the composition to have semblance of Federal character in line with extant constitutional provisions. Impunity truly makes key government officials who constitute the cabal in the Presidency headed by Muhammadu Buhari to commit lawless activities such as condoning armed Fulani attacks because they share Ethno-religious affiliations with the armed Fulani herdsmen and these criminal act of impunity is being carried out because these officials feel protected by Buhari. Let the President be reminded that his discriminatory policies in the matters of national security is a danger to the continuous existence of Nigeria. The heightened manifestations of abuse of power by Buhari and his officials, the oppressive deployment of soldiers to crush indigenous people of Biafra, the decimination of the mechanisms of Rule of law and above all evils the twin evil of the applications of tribalism and nepotism in national security affairs are grave threats to national peace and inter-Ethnic harmony".
The Rights group condemned the President for abysmally failing to discharge his primary constitutional duty which is to provide security to all Nigerians irrespective of Ethnicity or Religious persuasions and also for adopting discriminatory policies both in appointment of heads of security forces in a pattern that shows clear biases against other ethno-religious communities outside of his Fulani/ Hausa cleavages.
“The decision by the presidency to set up the Professor Osinbanjo – led committee on the incessant armed Fulani attacks amounts to grave compromise of Nigeria’s National security interest. Why handle the grave security threats posed by armed Fulani terrorists like a village engagements when there are laws against mass murders? This is amounts to defecating on top of our constitution and is a grave desecration which must be halted immediately.”
HURIWA also condemned the refusal of the National Assembly to employ the constitutional powers of impeachment against President Buhari, who in addition to flagrantly violating federal character principle in appointments of heads of National Security Team, is now holding dialogue sessions with alleged sponsors of genocide which undermines constitutional democracy.

HURIWA CONDEMNS ALLEGED LYNCHING OF 'HAUSA/FULANI' PASSENGERS IN GBOKO

A prominent civil Rights organization- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has condemned the alleged lynching of some purported Hausa/Fulani bus passengers travelling to Taraba who were allegedly intercepted by some hoodlums in Gboko and burnt alive.

HURIWA said the Federal government should take decisive steps to check the growing mutual mistrust amongst the diverse Ethnic nationalities by effectively rejiging the membership of the national security team to reflect the Federal character Principle in the Constitution and give a sense of belonging to all Nigerians rather than the divisive and discriminatory policy of exclusively keeping the lopsided domination of the Hausa/Fulani in the National Security team.

HURIWA said the Defence minister Major Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali(rtd) should be dismissed for tacitly providing support for the actions of some renegade Fulani herdsmen when he shamelessly blamed the blockade of grazing routes and the anti open grazing Act for the incessant attacks of farming communities by armed Fulani herdsmen.

HURIWA said: “It is unfortunate that the Presidency has failed to arrest, prosecute and sanction severely the perpetrators of the incessant violent attacks of farming communities by armed Fulani herdsmen. The Nigerian President must desist from creating the impression that he is in office to favour members of his Ethno-religious community."

The Rights group however condemned the purported attack of the Hausa/Fulani passengers in Gboko and has called on the security forces to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted for this dastardly criminal act of primitive and gruesome hacking to death of innocent Nigerians only because they are of a particular Ethnic nationality.  President Muhammadu Buhari must carry out his primary constitutional duty of providing security to lives and property of Nigerians effectively or be impeached by the National Assembly, HURIWA affirmed.

HURIWA recalled that the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni confirmed that seven persons were killed by irate youths in Gboko area of Benue State.

HURIWA recalled that the CP, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in his office, said the victims  were said to be travelling either to Okene in Kogi State or Taraba State when criminals attacked, killed and burnt them to ashes.
HURIWA quoted the Benue Police boss as stating thus “We got information around 11am this morning that some hoodlums believed to be of Tiv stock between 9.30am and 10.am stormed a garage in Gboko where they attacked seven people believed to be of Fulani extraction, killed and burnt them.
HURIWA further quoted the police commissioner as asserting that: “The passengers were said to be in the park where they were trying to board a commercial vehicle to Okene or Taraba. The police in the area of the attack got information and rushed to the place but the criminals embarked on hurling stones at the police".
Also HURIWA has applauded the Benue state governor Mr Samuel Orthom for promptly adopting steps to guide against any escalation of inter tribal skirmishes by declaring a curfew.
HURIWA quoted a media statement issued by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Tahav Argezua, in which  the government said that the curfew would last from 6pm to 6am from January 31 till further notice.
HURIWA also condemned the slow policing mechanisms and failure of intelligence for the incessant attacks of farming communities and for the sad lynch mob attack of innocent passengers.

How Giroud Made History No Player Would Want To Have After Chelsea Defeat

Olivier Giroud completed his £18m surprise move from English Premier League side Arsenal across London to Chelsea just after playing for Arsene Wenger in Wales against Swansea.
The Frenchman moved straight to Stamford Bridge to have his medical switching camp to the London rivals hours later.
However, the former Montpelier man encountered a rare fate that one would say is least experienced by players in the game.
The striker came as a substitute when Arsenal lost 3-1 against Swansea in Wales, a match that looked to be heading in the direction of the Gunners. Raymond Clucus hit the brace for the Swans before Jordan Ayew wrapped up the win with a third finish.
In a span of 24 hours, Giroud was sitting at the stands in Stamford Bridge watching his new team taking on mid-table team Bournemouth.
Here, a rude shock would await him as he watched in disbelief in the cold hours of the night. Callum Wilson, Junior Stanislas grabbed the second half goals before former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake hit the volley burying any hopes of a come-back from the champions.
Players on the stands and on the bench watched in disbelief as their hopes to maintain the winning tempo fell apart.
The Frenchman would then fall a victim of weird fate- losing to terribly with two different teams with just a span of 24 hours. The match may have summarized a nightmare for a player.
Chelsea have their campaign to fight for a position in Europe under great threat. They are just two points above Tottenham Hotspurs- a team that has shown great form and performance by hitting two past second-placed Manchester United.

Mourinho Bitterly Attacks Players After Making ‘Four Mistakes’ In Defeat To Tottenham

Jose Mourinho accused his Manchester United stars of failing to follow instructions after Christian Eriksen scored just 11 seconds into Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Wembley.
United boss Mourinho was furious with his side’s sloppy defending as they made a host of mistakes that allowed Eriksen to blast Tottenham ahead with the joint second fastest goal in Premier League history.
Phil Jones allowed Harry Kane to win a header from the kick-off and, with the rest of the United defence caught flat-footed, Dele Alli pounced with a deft pass that Eriksen steered home from close-range.
Adding insult to injury for Mourinho, Jones booted a Kieran Trippier cross into his own net midway through the first half to double Tottenham’s lead.
United’s first defeat in nine league games would have been even more painful had the hosts converted more of the numerous chances they created.
Mourinho had no doubt where the blame lay as he criticised his players for failing to follow the warnings he had given about Tottenham’s aggressive start to matches.
“I don’t think it is very normal to concede a goal like we did after 15 seconds,” he said.
“It is especially ridiculous because the players, they watch it before, we analyse opponents and work on opponents’ dynamics and routines.
“The players they knew the long ball, they knew that Harry Kane – before the kick-off, is already inside the opponent’s half. We knew everything.
“Then we don’t press the ball – one mistake. We don’t pick the ball in the air – second mistake.
“We don’t win the second ball on the ground – third mistake. We don’t cover the inside when Eriksen comes – four mistakes.
“Four mistakes after 15 seconds and you are losing 1-0 against a good team.”
With second placed United clinging to faint hopes of catching leaders Manchester City, it was a badly-timed meltdown from Mourinho’s men.
They are now 15 points behind City and Mourinho admitted he harbours no hopes of catching Pep Guardiola’s side.
Instead, he will focus on ensuring United survive the fight to qualify for next season’s Champions League via a top four finish.
– ‘Unlucky for me’ –
“I always think when the leader has a certain distance, I have been there a few times, you are calm, you are relaxed and you don’t feel the pressure,” he said.
“You know that your opponent, sooner or later, is going to drop at least a couple of points and you are completely in control.
“We play match after match, yes the Premier League finishes for us at Old Trafford in May against Watford but you knew the distance to the leader was already considerable even before this match.
“Now we have us, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal – we will be there fighting for the positions.”
Mourinho also revealed a knee injury forced Marouane Fellaini to be taken off just seven minutes after his second half introduction as a substitute.
“Fellaini came off because he had something in his knee. Unlucky for him and unlucky for me,” he said.
Tottenham’s win puts them just two points behind fourth placed Chelsea and third placed Liverpool, with a crucial trip to Anfield looming on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino was enthused by the way his team dominated such formidable opposition, but the boss refused to rate it the best of a season that also includes impressive wins over Real Madrid and Liverpool.
“I don’t know if it was the best, but for sure one of the best. The performance was fantastic,” he said.
“Manchester United are a great team, so to dominate and to keep a clean-sheet, the team deserve a lot of praise of course.”
Pochettino admitted even he was shocked to see Eriksen score so fast and he was quick to salute the Dane’s express impact.
“Christian is such an important player for us. He’s a player that links everyone and of course when he’s not in the team we always miss him,” he said
